Well another big week in Super Coach and it’s getting to the time of the season when you are in upgrading mode, improving your team. We all know the big guns your Abletts, Pendlebury’s, Deledio’s. You don’t need us to tell you about them. We try to uncover the players you may not know of. This is vitally important at this time of the year as there are many bargains to be had where you can save a dollar but still get a ripper player. As per usual we reckon we have uncovered a few for you. But I have a few other things first.

GIVING UP ON PLAYERS

You know the players I am talking about, Travis Cloke, Cyril Rioli, there are plenty of them. I guess I really want to focus on your keepers, your premium type players. No is NOT the time to be trading them out. You have to stick fat with them. We have been banging on all year about using your trades wisely and now is a time to do that. Like it or not you are stuck with Cloke and Rioli in particular. There are other simular that people have but you cannot be tempted by trading them out. You got them because they are premium players and you must stick with them.

The thing not to do is get sucked into what I call the “Double Sideways Debacle”. This is when you say have Cloke and think I can get Zorko and make a heap of cash and bring in Sidebottom. The reason why this is bad is because it is 2 trades to go sideways. Use your trades to improve your side and stick by your premiums.

DEFENDERS

Michael Johnson (Price $470500, Average 97, Break Even +69)

We spoke of this guy last week and he saluted with a 120. In a poorly performing team he has only once been under 90 so nice and consistent and a duel posi as well as a defender.

Corey Enright ($466600, 90, +77)

I keep going on about him get on it. Last 5 average is 95 so he is putting in consistent scores and over the last 5 years he has never averaged over 93.

Sam Fisher ($463,900, 88, +136)

This is more a heads up for next week. He has been injured and should be back this week. Has a high BE and should drop another 20k. Has not averaged under 90 in the last 5 years.

Chris Newman ($436800, 84, +137)

The Tigers skipper is going to drop another 20k next week and is about to be the bargain of the year. Has not averaged under 93 in the last 5 years. Will get better as Tiges do.

MIDFIELDERS

Luke Shuey ($540400, 111, +81)

Escapes attention in the Eagles midfield and has a last 3 game average of 120. Good average, good price doesn’t usually get tagged get on him.

Sam Mitchell ($516300, 107, +111)

Even though the Hawks play badly he still scores ok. His last 3 game average is 102 and has only been under 90 twice. Has averaged over 100 for the last 5 years, bargain.

Nick Dal Santo ($501300, 106, +70)

Not as cheap as last week but still cheap. His last 3 average is 113 and has only been under the 100 twice this year. Appears to have got his mojo back.

Matt Priddis (470400, 95, +145)

This is possibly the best buy of the year and it may get better next week with an expected price drop of 20k. If you take out his score of 24 when he was knocked out he has averaged 106 this year. His last 3 years he has averaged 104/109/114. If you can wait a week he will be the best bargain of the year.

RUCKS

Will Minson ($472900, 94, +90)

Has a last 5 game average of 102 so he is pretty consistent and is the main ruck at the Dogs. He is a unique pick and appears to be getting better as the season goes on.

Todd Goldstein ($458000, 86, +36)

Has got better since McIntosh got injured. His last 3 has averaged 112 with a massive 153 at the weekend. With confidence back even when McIntosh gets back he may do better.

FORWARDS

Paul Chapman ($527600, 103, +91)

A perennial Super Coach star he is still doing the business. His last 5 average is 111 and only twice has he been under 90. Nice and consistent and can go big.

Mitch Robinson ($472300, 96, +81)

Has stepped into the void left by Murphy with a huge 161 yesterday. Chris P has been on about getting players who step up to replace injured ones and this is a classic example and is still cheap as.

Danny Stanley ($422300, 98, +63)

Here’s one if you are a bit short on coin. Has only been back for 2 weeks but has had scores of 92 and 104 not bad for a team that lost.

David Zaharakis ($523300, 100, +109)

Having a great year in a good midfield has averaged 112 in his last 5 and 4 out of his last 5 have been over 100 and the one that wasn’t was a 96. Doesn’t get tagged either.

The trading centre is back sorry for the weeks rest. As usual this is to give you a hand with your trades this week and think of a few players you may not have thought of. Get into it.

BACKS

Lee Spur (Price $116,700, Average 60, Break Even -49)

There were big wraps on this guy in the pre season and now he has got his chance and if he plays his third game this week he is the best of the backs to downgrade to.

Brendan Goddard ($504,900, 107, +76)

He still is averaging a great 107 this year and his last 2 have been 120 and 113 and at what I reckon is his lowest price. If you don’t have him now is the time to get him. Bargain.

Scott Thompson NM ($474,000, 98, +69)

Playing like Alex Rance on the last line and getting simular scores. 4 out of his 7 games have been over 100 and last 2 have been 104 and 117. Nice and consistant and a good price.

Ryan Hargrave ($385,200, 83, +43)

His average is a bit deceptive as his last 3 games have been 110/95/98 so I have put him in as a cheap one if you can’t afford the more pricey ones. Getting better as the Dogs do.

MIDFIELDERS

Liam Sumner ($151,600, 58, -23)

The best of the downgrade targets. Not in the league of Horsley and Adams from last week but if you need a cheap one he is the best this week.

Jobe Watson ($588,100, 124, +77)

Having a huge year as are the Dons hard to tag and he has only been once under 100 which was a 93. His last 2 have been 134 and 149, he wont get much cheaper.

Trent Cotchin ($532,700, 109, +142)

I am a big fan of him and he may drop in price after this week but he has only once been under 100 and can cope with a tag most importantly.

Nathan Foley ($532,200, 104, +93)

Coming back to his best form his last 5 average is 114 which is great and 4 of his last 5 have been over 100 and the one that wasn’t was a 99. At a great price and is getting better.

ONES TO WATCH

Marc Murphy – has a break even of +187 and is looking to drop another 30 to around 540k and at that price get on him.

Matt Priddis – had a shocker last week after getting ko’d and is up for a massive price drop with a break even of +195 so will drop around 45k to around 460k. If that happens he will be the bargain of the year as he is a rock solid super coach performerwho was averaging 104 before last week.

RUCKS

Sam Jacobs ($484,600, 96, +118)

Not a lot around in the rucks but big sauce is having a solid year and has no competition for his ruck spot.

Jonathan Giles ($405,300, 97, +58)

Was super cheap and is still cheap for a bloke averaging 97 and his last 3 average is 101. He seems to be getting better as the season goes on and is the best value of the rucks.

FORWARDS

Aamed Saad ($124,700, 55, -34)

Not a great average but if you need a good downgrade forward he is the one, seems to have cemented his spot for now and should improve.

Justin Sherman ($428,800, 99, +62)

The Shermanator has made great return to form, in his last 3 games he has averaged 104 points to go with a season average of a very solid 99. Nice price for that average.

Clancee Pearce ($469,000, 94, +53)

Its seems we have been waiting for his form to drop but it hasn’t. Still at a good price his average is very good and could be a unique player for you. His last 5 game average is 110.

Harley Bennell ($449,100, 90, +35)

Has a last 3 game average is 110 and really who is going to tag a Gold Coast player?  You don’t need to. He kicks goals and uses it well. He is great to watch in the very least.

The trading centre for this week offers plenty for the traders out there. A lot of my focus is on the players others may not think of. We all know the big scorers so this guide are often for the players you may not notice but would be great for your team. The biggest question in Super Coach this year is addressed – What to do with Gary Ablett.

BACKS

Alex Rance (Price, $476,400, Average 101, Break Even +115)
He just keeps producing good consistent scores. Has a high break even so you could wait a week but he is cheap for that average.

Michael Firrito ($431,800, 96, +115)
Goes under the radar a bit but with a 96 average you could do a lot worse.

Brendan Goddard ($539,600, 103, +179)
Had a shocker on the weekend bad if you had him (or as captain as I did!!!) but good if you haven’t. With a huge break even he is sure to drop in price even further and become a massive bargain.

ROOKIE WATCH

Beau Wilkes ($106,600, 52)
Played his first game and kicked 3. Watch for job security but might be a good one for a down grade option.

RUCKS

Ivan Maric ($414,100, 93 +47)
Mullett has only had one game under 94  this year which is pretty good for a team that has only won one game. With injuries to Sandilands and Mumford go down to big Ivan and free up some cash.

MIDFIELDERS

Kade Simpson ($508,000, 108, +68)
The man who no one ever plays on is having a cracker of a season and is still at a good price. With the other stars at Carlton he doesn’t get tagged.

Daniel Cross ($511,770, 105, +105)
A perennial super coach star he is again having a solid season in a poor team. Only once this year has he been under the ton, that nice consistent stuff.

Rory Sloane ($497,400, 107, +59)
The young Crow is having a breakout year and may never be this cheap again. Consistency is the question but he has only once been under the ton. So it looks as though he may keep it up.

ROOKIE WATCH

Taylor Adams ($136,600, 80)
We were big on him in the pre season and he had a super debut and most importantly is duel positioned (fwd) he may be a good downgrade target next week especially if he keeps dishing up those scores.

Kyal Horsley ($128,700, 87)
In a James Magnerish debut he is an older recruit who was runner up in the Sandover Medal. Off the rookie list so job security is an issue but with a muture body and scores like that he will stay in the side.

FORWARDS

Tom Hawkins ($447,300, 104, +68)
Looks he’s going to be inconsistent but with that average if you are prepared to cop that he may be a good unique player.

Patrick Dangerfield ($476,700, 103, +60)
We all know about him but this is the chance to get on him before his price goes even higher. Has not had a score under 90 so has been consistent to.

Allan Christensen ($410,600, 86, +21)
Just nicely improving, his last 2 scores have been 123 and 107 so if you are after a unique improver and can’t quite afford a premium he is a ripper.

THE ABLETT QUESTION – To keep or not to keep?

This is possibly the most important question of the super coach season. What to do? Well I think there are a few factors to consider. I will present them in dot points.

·         His price. At the moment it is $721,400 which is massive. If you trade him out now you will need to find that much to get him back. In 3 or so weeks who knows what the prices of your players will be or other injuries you have.

·         Your league. Most people are trying to win their leagues against their mates. So what you could do is see who you are playing in the next few weeks and see if you can still beat them without Gary, or if they have him they have the same problem. Some people have crap teams and if you are lucky enough to play one or tow in the next few weeks you may be able to carry him.

·         Wasting trades. To get Gary in and out of your side you may have to use between 2 or 3 trades. Is it really worth doing that, we have seen how injuries can hit and come the end of the year after byes and when players get rested you will need them come finals time, a time when you will also need Gary.

·         Freeing up cash. If you trade him out you can still pick up a gun and have a bit of cash left over to use in other parts of your side. Of course this may mean you may never get him back in but it may be better for your side as a whole.

·         Adequate replacements. There are some rippers around to replace him with such as Marc Murphy, Dane Swan and Scott Pendelbury. All are stars who would be great in any side.

·         Number of trades already used. Its only early but some people have burned lots of trades and may not want to waste anymore on the other hand some may have plenty up their sleeves and might want to use one.

·         Still pissed off. There may be one doctor who still hasn’t forgiven him for leaving Geelong for $$$$$ and may be feeling let down by the bald man yet again.

These are a few of the questions I am considering when deciding what to do. It is a bloody tough question and everyone will have their own views. But removing the best player in the comp from your side is a big call but its not the end of the world if you keep him or get rid of him, or is it?

This is new to the Super Coach Doctor. We are ditching who we think is playing well and not well. What Super Coach is all about now is trading. Everyone wants to know who to trade in and out of their sides. So hopefully this will help people each week. We will set it up in a format by positions and then if required we will cover any other issues.

BACKS

BUY

Jarryn Geary (Price $333,600, Average 94, Break Even -9)

Possibly the break out player of the year. We have him as a buy because he is still going to go up in price by a big amount. He is going to average 90+ this year he will not be any cheaper  than this.

Paul Duffield ($431,400, 94, -32)

We pumped him up in the pre season and he has produced under Lyon and is back to his best. With a -32 break even his price is still going to go up a lot so now is the time to get him in if you can.

Corey Enright ($478,000, 84, +98)

He had a slow start to the year after an interrupted pre season  back with a 120 last week and this price probably wont get much lower . So if you want a tried and true Super Coach star he is a bargain at this price.

WATCH

Sam Fisher ($521,500, 94, +131)

A Super Coach star and is having a good season. Had a poor game last week and with a break even of 131 his price may drop further. If he has another average game his price will drop and could get under 500k. If so buy, buy, buy.

Chris Newman ($479,300, 84, +127)

Had a solid 98 at the weekend but is a proven performer. With such a high break even he is certain to drop in price a bit more. May even drop to around 460k area. Keep an eye on him he could be a bargain.

RUCKS

BUY

Paddy Ryder ($531,300, 121, +104)

Having a breakout season and at that average and that price he is a bargain. Can he keep it up is the big question. With doubts over Sandilands, Cox and Mumford he could be the highest scoring ruckman this year.

Jonathan Giles ($281,300, 94, -15)

Still going up in price so isn’t going to get any cheaper. A fantastic average and he could be a keeper. If he keeps a 90+ average up he is a bargain at this price.  

WATCH

Dean Cox ($578,000, 99, +157)

With a huge break even he is going to drop in price. He may not be his old self points wise but he is still averaging 100+ and if he can drop more in value he could become a bargain.

MIDFIELD

BUY

Brent Stanton ($591,200, 142, +108)

Having a huge year with the second best average in the comp behind money bags Ablett. I doubt he will be much cheaper than this so all aboard the Stanton train.

Jack Ziebell ($428,500, 115, +32)

Backed up a huge first game with a solid 98. He is playing his 3^rd game this week so his price will rise after this week. He will never be cheaper than this for his whole career so if you want him now is the time.

Callan Ward ($538,700, 121, +67)

A huge 133 last week, hasn’t been under 100 all year. His price is still going up and he looks to be a bona fide premium. He is still great value at this price get him if you can.

WATCH

Matt Priddis ($595,800, 108, +160)

Having a great season but with such a high break even his price will drop over the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on him and you may be able to snaffle him up at a great price.

Scott Pendlebury ($632,700, 122, +191)

Having a great year points wise as we expected. But his break even is 191 so his price is going to drop. If he gets into the low 600k area he would be the bargain of the year so watch closely.

FORWARDS

BUY

Luke Dahlhaus ($425,500, 109, +24)

Still going up in price but an average of 109 is great. Forwards like this can be hard to find his price is still rising so if you want him as maybe a swap for Hurley he is a ripper.

Kurt Tippett ($474,600, 122, +37)

Ok it may be time for this Doc to eat some humble pie. Has he finally delivered after teasing for so long. I made fun of him in the pre season but who is looking silly now. Still a bargain at this price and if he keeps these scores up he is a must have.  

WATCH

Matthew Pavlich  ($498,100, 86, +125)

Is still a star but has a huge price drop. Watch his form as his price falls. If he can turn his form around he could be a bargain.

Brent Harvey ($528,900, 95, +172)

He is inconsistent especially when tagged but he will give you 95-100 points as an average. He is going down in value and could be a bargain if he gets under 500k.

With Andrew Carrazzo out for at least 10-12 weeks he needs to be replaced. As he is a duel position player you have options. Here a few for each position is a straight swap scenario.

The man who was once nude is now back to his better ways. While not dominating games anymore he is still turning out great super coach scores. Get him while cheap.

There is always someone that bobs up that not many think of, this may be that man. Very consistent thus far and still cheap. Watch closely for an upgrade target.
Luke Dahlhaus ($386,100, 95)
A bit left field here. While not getting massive scores still a nice average in a team that is not going well. Cheap and one to keep an eye on.  

DOCS DUDS
Matthew Pavlich ($531,600, 85)
What is going on? A perennial super coach star has Lyons game plan hurt the big Pav.  Still highly priced a lot have him and will be hoping he can turn it around.

Has been copping some close attention this year and not liking it. Just as likely to get a 150 this week though and change it all around.

Gary Ablett (Price $708,000 Average 155)
Yes he is expensive but a 155 average is extraordinary. If you have him in your side make him captain every week. He is a freak, if you don’t have him, get him.
Trent Cotchin ($554,500, 118)
We have been waiting for the breakout season and it seems to have arrived. A team that has only won one game and this average is a super effort.
Lenny Hayes ($453,300, 110)
There was some doubt on how he would come back after a knee reco and he has come back as his old self. Still a bargain at that price he could be your first upgrade target. 

DOCS DUDS

Dane Swan ($615,800, 100)
A good average by most peoples standard but not for the tattooed one. For those who forked out the big coin for him they will be disappointed with his output so far.
Michael Rishetelli ($478,600, 75)
He is way better than a 75 average. Has been real poor so far and should be better. If he can improve though he could be a bargain buy.
Travis Boak ($451,700, 71)
For a supposed gun this average is not good. He should be a 100 point player and its not as if Port aren’t doing ok. He needs to lift.

DOCS DELIGHTS

Brendan Goddard (Price $588,100, Average 121.7)

After a below average year last year (for him) he is back to his best and is the best defender available. If you don’t have him get him, he is costly but will reward you.

Alex Rance ($478,400, 109.3)

Has been consistent this year breaking the 100 barrier in every game. But can he keep it up? It looks as if he can and he is at a nice juicy price to. Get on him before it gets higher.

Michael Hibberd ($424,100, 99.3)

Some nice consistant scores  and with Dempsey out for a few weeks he should continue this trend. Still nice and cheap and near that magical 100 average.

DOCS DUDS

Rhys Shaw ($415,400, 50.5)

He missed round 1 but the Swans are flying and he has spudded it up so far. I pumped him up pre season and he has delivered little. Lift Rhys.

Graham Johncock ($413,900, 56.0)

The Stiff is a genuine premium defender over the years. That average is very poor. Maybe the new coach is using him differently. If you have him seriously look at moving him on.
